Al-Mustahaqqah Surat kasih sayang tulus dan ikhlas daripada beta sampai kepada sahabat beta Gurnador Pulau Pinang maka adalah surat sahabat beta beri mari pada teman Cina Kai nama Cina Lek tersebut dalamnya minta beta benarkan Cina Lek membeli beras dua koyan maka sudahlah beta benarkan Cina Lek membeli beras maka dibeli Cina Lek beras tengah tiga koyan muat dalam perahunya bawa pergi itu maka perintah beras padi ini sudah diadatkan dari dahulu barang yang dibawa keluar ke Setul (lam-nga-wau) atau barang ke mana pun diambil cukainya maka sekarang sahabat beta ambil pada Cina Kai cukai beras tengah tiga koyan itu lima puluh rial beri mari jangan binasa adat ahwal itulah beta nyatakan kepada sahabat beta perbuat surat empat belas haribulan Safar hari Ahad tamat

Surat Sultan Abdullah kepada Francis Light berkenaan surat Light yang dihantar kepada Cina Kai yang meminta Sultan Abdullah agar membenarkan Cina Lek membeli beras 2 koyan. Baginda telah pun membenarkannnya membeli beras tersebut. Walau bagaimanapun, Cina Lek telah membeli 2 setengah koyan beras. Menurut adat, beras yang dibawa keluar ke Setul atau ke mana pun hendaklah diambil cukai. Justeru, baginda menyuruh Light mengambil 50 rial daripada Cina Kai sebagai cukai 2 setengah koyan beras. Surat ini ditulis pada 14 Safar, hari Ahad.


Summary:

The letter from Sultan Abdullah to Francis Light was about Light`s letter that was sent to Chinese Kai who asked Sultan Abdullah to allow Chinese Lek to buy 2 koyan of rice. The Sultan allowed him to buy the rice. However Chinese Lek bought two and a half koyan of rice. According to the Kedah custom, rice that were taken out to Setul or any where at all, would be taxed. Therefore, the Sultan asked Light to take 50 reales from Chinese Kai as tax for the two and a half koyan of rice. The letter was completed on 14th Safar, Sunday.
